MobileCon

MobileCON Galicia was a conference about mobile development held on December 9, 2011 in Santiago de Compostela. Organized by Martin Perez and Maria Encinar, the event brought together a selection of speakers with a strong technological profile, with very interesting talks for those interested in mobility, and a large group of attendees interested in this kind of development. The conference served as a meeting place for professional mobile development in Galicia (both iOS and Android, and other technologies), bringing speakers from across Spain. The application was developed on the day before the event, based on the Google’s IOSched source code. It was modified to not require a specific publishing system contents, without publishing XML or JSON in a specific format, but directly used HTML formatted content for mobile devices. Thus, the application had dynamic loading content, facilitating correct them in case of errors, and providing the possibility to make changes to the presentations, schedules, or useful information without requiring users to fully updating the application. The adaptation of the source code consisted of an app rebranding, adapting the logo of the event, and replacing complex screens by loading remote content. Thus the following sections were implemented:

  • diary
  • map
  • speakers
  • information, including information about the event, useful links, links to materials provided by the speakers …
  • real-time feedback monitoring, through #mcongal hashtag on Twitter
The work was done in a few hours, and its code was released the day before the event, at the time of publication in the Android Market. The source code was released as a small contribution to the event and its participants.
